Celebrating Heroes at Walter Reed

Despite the cold, blustery weather, we had a terrific turnout this week. We were joined by 12 (at least) College Republicans from GWU who brought plenty of youthful exuberance.

What a great bunch of kids! They jumped right in grabbing signs and flags and making lots of noise. It was great to see so many new, fresh faces and to see the kind of people that will be leaders in the future.

We may complain about the cold while waving our flags and holding signs, but some people brave much worse to show their support. The great people of Patriot Guard Riders recently rode to the funeral of Lt. Garrison Avery in Lincoln Nebraska. They had to make sure the family was surrounded by citizens who truly appreciated the sacrifice made by Lt. Avery and to prevent "Reverend" Fred Phelps and his band of asshats from being heard and seen.

We got up at 5 this morning, to get ready and on the road to meet up with our convoy to head to Nebraska --- The temperature at the bank on the highway said 27 degrees, but with the 40 mile per hour winds, it actually felt like about 10. ...The wind was cutting like razors through the riders' hands and faces -- they were all bundled up plenty, but the wind was inescapable.

An unofficial count of nearly 250 bikes showed up!!! Grab a hanky or two and read the whole report.



Also from SA Germany is an update about the Sheehag protest planned for next month. There will be a counter-protest!

Stefan Prystawik, a German writer in Bonn, is working to stage a counterprotest. On his Web site, at www.stefan-prystawik.de, Prystawik characterizes Sheehan as “the great-great grandmother of all Bush haters.”

Since we can't all be in Germany for the festivities, there is still a way to participate. You can send support to the wounded warriors via SA as either cards and letters or by helping with their Patient Projects.

Even our good friends in the Great White North are behind us when it comes to protesting at military hospitals.


Of course, the yunguns' had to go waaaaay down the block and say "Hi" to the commie Pinkos. The meeting didn't last very long as the Pink 'tards weren't in the mood for conversation during their "vigil".

Having fulfilled their requirement for confrontation, the students made their way back to the "good" corners and continued celebrating.


These cops were midway between the FReepers and the Pinkos for most of the night. They didn't approach anyone, so I assume they were just keeping an eye on things.

Did I mention again how great the D.C. cops are? No foolin'; these guys really are terrific!

I didn't bother taking many pics of the Pinkos this week. There was too much fun going on up the block. Plus, I had the wrong resolution set on the camera (*blush*) and didn't realize it until I got home and started going thru the pics. Rats! Some of these pics just aren't very good.

Nevertheless, a good time was had by all. We got lots of honks, waves and cheers and several vets stopped by to let us thank them in person. It never ceases to be a thrill to meet these wonderful warriors!

As usual, you wouldn't know it from watching the news or reading most of the big newspapers, but there is real progress being made in Iraq. Our military is training the Iraqi military to be self-sufficient and there are many stories that prove we are succeeding. Take this post from Mark Glesne of War and Political Honesty:

As we rolled through the streets, I couldn't help but watch in excitement as the Iraqi Colonel we have been working with got out of his armored vehicle and began walking the streets. Of course he had his personal security detachment with him at all times (including my good friend Salah) but he was quick to walk the streets, meeting and greeting the local population. It was almost as if he was conducting the "fear not, there's a new sherriff in town" walk. It was great. His security team handed out the large Iraqi flags that the IA vehicles were displaying and the civilians proudly waved them as we slowly rolled by - led by the Colonel himself.

This first Battalion sized mission with the Iraqi Army was a complete success. Glesne's opinion of his students couldn't be higher as he reports "There is no doubt in my mind that this country is making the necessary advances toward their freedom and security. People may not like how long it is taking, but when you see what I witnessed again yesterday, you understand that training these men correctly - at the expense of time - is worth it."

It's reports like this that Pinkos fear and Patriots celebrate!

Just like it's taken a couple of decades for history to view favorably the great accomplishments of Ronald Reagan, it will take some time for "common knowledge" to reveal the dramatic improvement of life on planet Earth due to Bush's vision and steadfast commitment.

Is the President perfect? Heck no! I still can't figure out what he's thinking on the border issue and this whacky 'temporary worker' thing. The best that's going to do is institutionalize a second-class caste which will morph into another victim group.

He tried to do the right thing with Social Security - that didn't last too long. Stoopid commies shouted down the voices of reason and now we're doomed to paying out the yingyang for the gubmint telling us we don't need to plan or work for our own retirement. I think he should have continued to educate the public and stayed on it for a while longer.

To make matters worse, the Medicare Drug & Viagra Entitlement Act is the biggest boondoggle I ever hope to see! Why aren't Hillary and Teddy jumping for joy over this socialist outreach program? Oh, yeah - they're celebrating in private *hic* planes.

But ya gotta admit that he's on the money with the way the GWOT has been prosecuted. Yeah, yeah - it hasn't been perfect, but jeesh! even with the bumps along the way (yes I call them 'bumps') at least he has the cajones to have tried!

We are safer today than we were 5 years ago!

It seems the Maryland Minutemen are having a chilling effect on the livelihood of illegal aliens in Montgomery County, MD. Casa de Maryland, a taxpayer funded social(ist) organization, is not at all happy with having their invisible constituency pulled into the light of day. Casa has decided that its OK to stalk the children of the Minutemen!

Among other ugly things, this statement raises the specter of Casa de Maryland spying on the children of Minutemen at their homes and stalking them to determine where they go to school.

The illegals have already shown their willingness to harass and assault the law-abiding photographers who document the transactions occurring at day laborer pickup points in the county. On February 11,

Stephen Schreiman was taking photographs of the day laborers who gather near Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg.

Thirty minutes later, he said his eye hurt and he had a throbbing headache.

By noon, he was in the Gaithersburg police station, filing charges of simple assault against a man he claims aimed a laser pointer at him and his camera.

Constitutional Law Attorney Gary G. Kreep, of the United States Justice Foundation said "Harassing and frightening little children at their schools is not authorized, or protected, by state or federal law, and appears to be intended to convey a threat to the parents that if they do not knuckle under to the political correctness demanded by Mr. Torres, their children will be in danger. The United States Justice Foundation hereby offers to take whatever legal action is necessary or appropriate to protect these children and to protect the Constitutional rights of the members of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps."

After discussing the matter with a colleague, we came to the conclusion that even with this clear-cut threat to the safety of the Minutemen and their families that the social engineers at the State PD will only start issuing CCW's after at least one kid is dead.

On March 11, protesters plan to walk from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center to a parking lot just outside Ramstein Air Base, where Sheehan will be at a "camp," paying tribute to those who have died in the Iraq war.

Yeah, right. "paying tribute" by claiming "Bush Lied!"

"Cindy will be with us at Camp Casey Landstuhl/Ramstein to call attention to the fact that Germany is Europe’s logistical hub for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and others threatening Iran and the Middle East," according to an event flier. "Germany has the power to stop the further use of U.S. bases in Germany for illegal wars and criminal methods of warfare — the power and the right to just say no!"

Just say "NO" to moonbats!

Sheehan’s goals are to bring the troops home and have peace on earth, she said in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes. ..."I don’t know anything about the visit," she wrote. "It is being arranged by some people in Germany."

Got me a new toy

Hooray! I love new "stuff"!

I picked up my shiny new laptop today and spent all evening setting it up and copying files from the old P.O.S.

I got a Toshiba "Satellite" with the biggest damn screen I've ever seen (15.4"), 2Ghz Pentium M, 120G HD, 1G RAM, bells 'n whistles everywhere. Yay!

Landry Fan "tagged" me with the most horrible meme yet - nearly 50 questions! She must hate me... I'll get to it when I finish basil's interview questions.

I spent quite a bit of last evening catching up at Insolublog's place. I could link to every post, but you should just go and read them all. Aw man, he's got another one up! The guy doesn't post anything for a month, and then goes berserk writing the best stuff! NO not tonight. I'll go read it tomorrow.

Has NASCAR gone NFL?

I was REALLY DISAPPOINTED with this weekend's Daytona 500, and not just 'cause it was a pretty boring race. There was at most 5 seconds of recognition for the military and that included the 2 second shot of the Color Guard and 3 seconds of the beautiful F/A-22 Raptors flying overhead. That's it!!!

I didn't get to watch the Super Bowl, but have heard/read several places that there was no tribute to the Troops at all during the game. The Daytona 500, and all other NASCAR races, have been the places where I knew I'd be treated to some kind of honoring of our national heroes. Not any more it seems.

You'd think after spending $38 million in sponsorship fees that NASCAR would at least say "thanks" to the Pentagon with a token spot. Maybe its just NBC? Will FOX do a better job when it takes over at the halfway point? I'm not holding my breath.

Takin' a look around, they don't seem to have noticed over at That's Racing, and a Yahoo search doesn't come up with squat.

Time to start writing emails...

Still There at Walter Reed

A very special guest joined us on this President's Day weekend in front of Walter Reed: the first President!

GW (or a reasonable facsimile) thanked the troops for all their hard work and dedication to the country.

We had a small crowd tonight. Maybe it was the holiday weekend, the incredibly bad traffic (aaarrrrgggghhh!), or the seasonably cold weather. In any event, we covered ALL FOUR CORNERS but it was a stretch.

I hope all the usual suspects return next week, and maybe a few new faces as well. Don't be afraid of the cold! We have coffee, hot chocolate and Micky D's is only a block and a half up the road.

I really missed being away for a week. Its a very special time each week that I look forward to (except that traffic!) with pleasure. If you've got gas money and time, please come out this Friday and show your support to our wounded warriors and their caregivers.

A real hero gives a "thumbs up".

Another hero laments: Through the past 8 mos in Afghanistan and a year in Iraq, the biggest down fall without a doubt hasn’t been the service members completing the mission or a lack in body armor, tanks or battle equipment, its been the media support back in the states. Without fail the media has done its best to downplay the elections, create doubt and instability. Sure they covered the battle of Fallujah but that was easy for them. Now, when the rubber meets the road, where are they? Where are the stories? [There are other] very important things happening in the world that should be reported on to inform America, Instead they are busy reporting about show dogs escaping!!!

I tried watching the news for about 2 minutes this weekend. It just wasn't worth it. Who cares anymore about the hunting accident with the VP? It will be worth a million jokes (a lot of them pretty funny!) but its not news fer cryin' out loud!

A group of conservative college students joined us tonight. In they're quest for knowledge, they decided to visit the commie Pinkos who continue to hold their "vigil" waaaay down the block.

These peace-loving weiners actually became violent when the college kids engaged them in debate! The hippy with the flags on the end hit one of the students with a rolled up flag when the student pointed out that the "peace sign" flag voilated the law.

Comrade Bruce (funny-hat guy) screamed obscentities at the students when he perceived that they'd voilated Mrs. Bruce's personal space.

This passing pooch was curious and quite amused by the Pinkos.

Most people don't find them all that funny. Sergeant Steven Boggess wrote recently:

This same anti-war crowd is now asking for help with its numbers. They say "please help us if you believe we have a right to our simple vigil, if you can trust us not to ever do any harm to any of our veterans. Please join us sometime between seven and nine p.m. any Friday evening and show the world you don't believe in the lies told about us and that you believe in our right to have our vigil for our soldiers."

From what I know, Code Pink has already done harm to the soldiers in the hospital by its sheer presence across the street from soldiers who have given so much so that these anti-war and anti-Americans can protest the soldiers who are in the hospital.

The knowledge that the soldiers have of this group's presence in its protest of the war is enough to do harm to the soldiers mentally and emotionally. The group however, can only see what they want to see, and also want others to validate their presence across the street by coming to join them in protest.

The commies just don't get it. They say that they've spoken to the troops inside the hospital and that they have found the wounded to be in agreement with the Pinkos. I think the hippies are delusional! Of course, "Princess" couldn't come up with any names to verify his claims.

One hero that's coming home soon is a Marine Corps Field Historian who writes the milblog The Daily Grind. Its hard to imagine anyone having second thoughts about coming home from Iraq, but the LtCol is having them in The Journey Home

I am looking forward to the reunion with my family. Yet, ironically, I am saddened to leave this god-forsaken place, to leave behind the Marines with whom I've lived and worked, my brothers, the men who are part of me and I them. I don't want to leave, not just yet, I haven't finished what I started, Please, I'm not ready to go....

It is time. A confusing time. Happy and sad. As if I'm losing something; It's hard, I don't understand why it has to feel this way...The end of my journey is close at hand. The long road home has begun...

I'm going to lay all the blame for my lack 'o posting on my laptop. I hate it!

I spent 5 hours last night just trying to back up photos because this dumb machine kept forgetting what it was doing half way through the file copies. Then it would lock up completely. Then I would throw it down the stairs, pick it up and start all over again. Maybe its the stairs?... nah!

CivilWarrior is Coming Home!

Soldier, milblogger, teacher, diplomat, and all-around good guy Stephen is finally leaving fun filled Camp Bondsteel! In The last hurrah he gives one last look at the kind of work he's been doing for the past year in Kosovo.

At this point, I lost my patience with the whole thing, and told Trajon that he was wasting my time, and that I wasn't going to put up with it. I told Anthony Dada, and Danny we were leaving, got up and started to walk out. As soon as I did that, it suddenly got quiet again, Trajon left the room very quickly, without shaking my hand (which is considered a huge insult here) and very embarresed. All of the old men were smiling and nodding at me, telling me they agreed with me about what they should do...lots of handshakes all around...it was great.

Thank you, CivilWarrior!!! You've done a great job and taught me a whole lot along the way. I'm really looking forward to that "I'm Home!" post!!!

Holy Crap Bat Man! I accepted Andi's invitation to be one of five to "live blog" the 2006 Milblog Conference in D.C. on April 22nd (and I was very honored to have been asked!) but now I'm not sure I'll be able to even function, let alone concentrate on what's being said and done. Its a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

This wacky D.C. weather! Temps in the mid 60's in February, no less. My daffodils are sprouting. Little do they know that any day now will bring a week of sub-freezing death! There goes my spring garden...

I've been really distracted lately and can't put more than 2 thoughts together; thus, light posting.
