Celebrating Heroes at Walter Reed
Despite the cold, blustery weather, we had a terrific turnout this week. We were joined by 12 (at least) College Republicans from GWU who brought plenty of youthful exuberance.
Here's Jeff H. striking a very Centurion pose near the gate.
What a great bunch of kids! They jumped right in grabbing signs and flags and making lots of noise. It was great to see so many new, fresh faces and to see the kind of people that will be leaders in the future.
We may complain about the cold while waving our flags and holding signs, but some people brave much worse to show their support. The great people of Patriot Guard Riders recently rode to the funeral of Lt. Garrison Avery in Lincoln Nebraska. They had to make sure the family was surrounded by citizens who truly appreciated the sacrifice made by Lt. Avery and to prevent "Reverend" Fred Phelps and his band of asshats from being heard and seen.
From the post at Soldiers' Angels Germany
We got up at 5 this morning, to get ready and on the road to meet up with our convoy to head to Nebraska --- The temperature at the bank on the highway said 27 degrees, but with the 40 mile per hour winds, it actually felt like about 10. ...The wind was cutting like razors through the riders' hands and faces -- they were all bundled up plenty, but the wind was inescapable.
An unofficial count of nearly 250 bikes showed up!!! Grab a hanky or two and read the whole report.
Also from SA Germany is an update about the Sheehag protest planned for next month. There will be a counter-protest!
Stefan Prystawik, a German writer in Bonn, is working to stage a counterprotest. On his Web site, at www.stefan-prystawik.de, Prystawik characterizes Sheehan as “the great-great grandmother of all Bush haters.”
Since we can't all be in Germany for the festivities, there is still a way to participate. You can send support to the wounded warriors via SA as either cards and letters or by helping with their Patient Projects.
Even our good friends in the Great White North are behind us when it comes to protesting at military hospitals.
Of course, the yunguns' had to go waaaaay down the block and say "Hi" to the commie Pinkos. The meeting didn't last very long as the Pink 'tards weren't in the mood for conversation during their "vigil".
Having fulfilled their requirement for confrontation, the students made their way back to the "good" corners and continued celebrating.
These cops were midway between the FReepers and the Pinkos for most of the night. They didn't approach anyone, so I assume they were just keeping an eye on things.
Did I mention again how great the D.C. cops are? No foolin'; these guys really are terrific!
I didn't bother taking many pics of the Pinkos this week. There was too much fun going on up the block. Plus, I had the wrong resolution set on the camera (*blush*) and didn't realize it until I got home and started going thru the pics. Rats! Some of these pics just aren't very good.
Nevertheless, a good time was had by all. We got lots of honks, waves and cheers and several vets stopped by to let us thank them in person. It never ceases to be a thrill to meet these wonderful warriors!
As usual, you wouldn't know it from watching the news or reading most of the big newspapers, but there is real progress being made in Iraq. Our military is training the Iraqi military to be self-sufficient and there are many stories that prove we are succeeding. Take this post from Mark Glesne of War and Political Honesty:
As we rolled through the streets, I couldn't help but watch in excitement as the Iraqi Colonel we have been working with got out of his armored vehicle and began walking the streets. Of course he had his personal security detachment with him at all times (including my good friend Salah) but he was quick to walk the streets, meeting and greeting the local population. It was almost as if he was conducting the "fear not, there's a new sherriff in town" walk. It was great. His security team handed out the large Iraqi flags that the IA vehicles were displaying and the civilians proudly waved them as we slowly rolled by - led by the Colonel himself.
This first Battalion sized mission with the Iraqi Army was a complete success. Glesne's opinion of his students couldn't be higher as he reports "There is no doubt in my mind that this country is making the necessary advances toward their freedom and security. People may not like how long it is taking, but when you see what I witnessed again yesterday, you understand that training these men correctly - at the expense of time - is worth it."
It's reports like this that Pinkos fear and Patriots celebrate!
The two pics with the blue borders were taken by iMacMan. He's got a much better camera than mine and a killer flash. I'm really jealous! Thanks for the photos, iMM!
Thanks must go out to JP at Milblogging.com who has pimped a most excellent Marine's blog - Midnight in Iraq. If you're a fan of Capt B, you'll like Midnight and his LOL sense of humor. For instance:
I’m talking 4 seasons of “24,” 1.5 seasons of “Lost,” and a metric shit-ton of movies…even bad ones like “The Stepford Wives.”
1935:01 - Decide that I have, indeed, earned a crack cookie.
1936- Cookie, cookie, cookie!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! ...OK, is it just me that thinks this stuff is funny? Seriously though, go check him out.
This is a message in which I truely believe! Just like it's taken a couple of decades for history to view favorably the great accomplishments of Ronald Reagan, it will take some time for "common knowledge" to reveal the dramatic improvement of life on planet Earth due to Bush's vision and steadfast commitment.
Is the President perfect? Heck no! I still can't figure out what he's thinking on the border issue and this whacky 'temporary worker' thing. The best that's going to do is institutionalize a second-class caste which will morph into another victim group.
He tried to do the right thing with Social Security - that didn't last too long. Stoopid commies shouted down the voices of reason and now we're doomed to paying out the yingyang for the gubmint telling us we don't need to plan or work for our own retirement. I think he should have continued to educate the public and stayed on it for a while longer.
To make matters worse, the Medicare Drug & Viagra Entitlement Act is the biggest boondoggle I ever hope to see! Why aren't Hillary and Teddy jumping for joy over this socialist outreach program? Oh, yeah - they're celebrating in private *hic* planes.
But ya gotta admit that he's on the money with the way the GWOT has been prosecuted. Yeah, yeah - it hasn't been perfect, but jeesh! even with the bumps along the way (yes I call them 'bumps') at least he has the cajones to have tried!
We are safer today than we were 5 years ago!
Freedom is reigning over more territory than it was 5 years ago.
Americans are enjoying unprecedented prosperity despite the naysayers who compare the economy to the Great Depression.
Our military scares the beejebus out of every would-be despot! Unfortunately, the State Departement (but not Condi!) is filled with weak-kneed politicos who'd rather sing Kumbaya than swing the "big stick."
Because George W. Bush will never back down or falter in his devotion to the troops and the mission he's given them, warriors like the ones on this bus returning from Fran O'Brien's will never doubt their honorable place in history.

Oh Happy Day!
United for Peace & Justice (& Clean Bong Water ) has issued the following statement:
Storm the White HouseHell yeah, come on down you stinkin' commies. This time they may just have gone beyond political "free speech" and entered the realm of insurrection.
Multi-Day Event, Beginning March 15, come when you can and stay as long as you can - we are taking over the White House until they leave. Torture, Occupation, Genocide - Must End Now.
Wednesday, March 15th 2006 12:00 AM
Washington, DC USA
TAKE THE WHITE HOUSE BY STORM - Stop Genocide, Torture and Occupation
For Nat Turner, For Martin and Coretta, For all the Torture and Assassination in Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti and many others - We will not allow the Slave Holders that Still Prevail in this Country to Rule us any longer. Imprisonment and torture based on race, religion, resources or region is no different than the slavery we sought to abolish years ago. The Administration is Criminal and if they will not step down, we must storm in, show them how many of us do not accept a criminal government. How can we stand by and watch them kill our brothers, sisters, journalists and friends for their dollars?Emphasis mine. I've copied the entire post because I expect them to take it down before long.
We are calling on all Member Nations of the U.N., All Representatives and Justices in the World Court and International Criminal Courts, all soldiers and CIA agents and government officials who have been blackmailed by the dictators to incarcerate Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. The Political Cooperative will put a new government in place that is comprised of people from Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and all the organizations that have finally made us aware of the truth of the savage practices and illegal policies of our government in assassinating our own officials as well as people throughout the world who oppose their criminal activity. We need all of you to save U.S. citizens and Global Victims from their ongoing criminal activity. We are calling on the military, police, citizens and religious organizations to stand with us and help us to bring democracy back to the United States and by doing so, free the world from the wrath, occupation, theft, torture, blackmail and assassination by the Criminals in the United States Government. What they have done all over the world is much worse than what Saddam Hussein has done, so why are they not in jail too? They have admitted to international and national crimes, so why have they not been taken to Court too?
White House, Washington DC 1600 Pennsylvania Ave Washington DC 20500
We are requesting participation from all members of the United Nations, PFAW, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Code Pink, police, soldiers, ACLU, CIA, NSA and International Courts of Justice/World Court. http://www.PoliticalCooperative.Org
Come on down to the Nation's Capital to protect our way of life and "get some" hippies.
For more info and commentary, see the post on FreeRepublic by Kristinn Taylor.
Disclaimer: this post does not in any way, shape, or form condone the use of violence against hippy commie tards or any other people. It does suggest that one use good judgment in one's choice of targets.

Reason #1,294,330 to get your CCW
"We are going to target them in a specific way," said Executive Director Gustavo Torres. Casa representatives will go out with cameras and video cameras to record the Minutemen, but that will only be the first step, he said.Call me paranoid, but that sounds like a threat.
"Then we are going to picket their houses, and the schools of their kids, and go to their work," Torres said. "If they are going to do this to us, we are going to respond in the same way, to let people know their neighbors are extremists, that they are anti-immigrant. They are going to hear from us."
It seems the Maryland Minutemen are having a chilling effect on the livelihood of illegal aliens in Montgomery County, MD. Casa de Maryland, a taxpayer funded social(ist) organization, is not at all happy with having their invisible constituency pulled into the light of day. Casa has decided that its OK to stalk the children of the Minutemen!
Among other ugly things, this statement raises the specter of Casa de Maryland spying on the children of Minutemen at their homes and stalking them to determine where they go to school. The illegals have already shown their willingness to harass and assault the law-abiding photographers who document the transactions occurring at day laborer pickup points in the county. On February 11,
Stephen Schreiman was taking photographs of the day laborers who gather near Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg.Constitutional Law Attorney Gary G. Kreep, of the United States Justice Foundation said "Harassing and frightening little children at their schools is not authorized, or protected, by state or federal law, and appears to be intended to convey a threat to the parents that if they do not knuckle under to the political correctness demanded by Mr. Torres, their children will be in danger. The United States Justice Foundation hereby offers to take whatever legal action is necessary or appropriate to protect these children and to protect the Constitutional rights of the members of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps."
Thirty minutes later, he said his eye hurt and he had a throbbing headache.
By noon, he was in the Gaithersburg police station, filing charges of simple assault against a man he claims aimed a laser pointer at him and his camera.
After discussing the matter with a colleague, we came to the conclusion that even with this clear-cut threat to the safety of the Minutemen and their families that the social engineers at the State PD will only start issuing CCW's after at least one kid is dead.

Sheehag Takes Anti-War Crap to Germany
From Stars & Stripes comes this heartwarming tale of a lovely lady bent on spreading her version of support to the wounded warriors abroad.
What a pile of filth!
On March 11, protesters plan to walk from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center to a parking lot just outside Ramstein Air Base, where Sheehan will be at a "camp," paying tribute to those who have died in the Iraq war.
Yeah, right. "paying tribute" by claiming "Bush Lied!"
"Cindy will be with us at Camp Casey Landstuhl/Ramstein to call attention to the fact that Germany is Europe’s logistical hub for the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and others threatening Iran and the Middle East," according to an event flier. "Germany has the power to stop the further use of U.S. bases in Germany for illegal wars and criminal methods of warfare — the power and the right to just say no!"
Just say "NO" to moonbats!
Sheehan’s goals are to bring the troops home and have peace on earth, she said in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes. ..."I don’t know anything about the visit," she wrote. "It is being arranged by some people in Germany."
I don't know why I'm anywhere, I just go where they point me and whine.

Got me a new toy
I picked up my shiny new laptop today and spent all evening setting it up and copying files from the old P.O.S.
I got a Toshiba "Satellite" with the biggest damn screen I've ever seen (15.4"), 2Ghz Pentium M, 120G HD, 1G RAM, bells 'n whistles everywhere. Yay!
Landry Fan "tagged" me with the most horrible meme yet - nearly 50 questions! She must hate me... I'll get to it when I finish basil's interview questions.
I spent quite a bit of last evening catching up at Insolublog's place. I could link to every post, but you should just go and read them all. Aw man, he's got another one up! The guy doesn't post anything for a month, and then goes berserk writing the best stuff! NO not tonight. I'll go read it tomorrow.

Has NASCAR gone NFL?
I didn't get to watch the Super Bowl, but have heard/read several places that there was no tribute to the Troops at all during the game. The Daytona 500, and all other NASCAR races, have been the places where I knew I'd be treated to some kind of honoring of our national heroes. Not any more it seems.
You'd think after spending $38 million in sponsorship fees that NASCAR would at least say "thanks" to the Pentagon with a token spot. Maybe its just NBC? Will FOX do a better job when it takes over at the halfway point? I'm not holding my breath.
Takin' a look around, they don't seem to have noticed over at That's Racing, and a Yahoo search doesn't come up with squat.
Time to start writing emails...

Still There at Walter Reed
A very special guest joined us on this President's Day weekend in front of Walter Reed: the first President!
GW (or a reasonable facsimile) thanked the troops for all their hard work and dedication to the country.
Landry Fan has more on this Founding Father's attendance in her post Outside Walter Reed. She's also got a terrific update about Josh Sparling with pics!
We had a small crowd tonight. Maybe it was the holiday weekend, the incredibly bad traffic (aaarrrrgggghhh!), or the seasonably cold weather. In any event, we covered ALL FOUR CORNERS but it was a stretch.
I hope all the usual suspects return next week, and maybe a few new faces as well. Don't be afraid of the cold! We have coffee, hot chocolate and Micky D's is only a block and a half up the road.
I really missed being away for a week. Its a very special time each week that I look forward to (except that traffic!) with pleasure. If you've got gas money and time, please come out this Friday and show your support to our wounded warriors and their caregivers.
A real hero gives a "thumbs up".
Another hero laments: Through the past 8 mos in Afghanistan and a year in Iraq, the biggest down fall without a doubt hasn’t been the service members completing the mission or a lack in body armor, tanks or battle equipment, its been the media support back in the states. Without fail the media has done its best to downplay the elections, create doubt and instability. Sure they covered the battle of Fallujah but that was easy for them. Now, when the rubber meets the road, where are they? Where are the stories? [There are other] very important things happening in the world that should be reported on to inform America, Instead they are busy reporting about show dogs escaping!!!
You guessed it? Yes, another edition of No Shit News from Capt. B.
I tried watching the news for about 2 minutes this weekend. It just wasn't worth it. Who cares anymore about the hunting accident with the VP? It will be worth a million jokes (a lot of them pretty funny!) but its not news fer cryin' out loud!
From an editorial Our Military Remains Ever Loyal And Strong.
Much Of Our National Media Does Not on WTOC (Savanah, GA) Bill Cathcart writes:
It’s always been our great military that has kept us sovereign and free, no thanks to the bulk of today’s national media, who are thankfully, now, being pushed to the curb by new information alternatives, both traditional and internet-based. It’s our courageous military members who bear the burden of incarcerating or incinerating the lunatic barbarians whose death-wish will forever be to kill us. Said President Reagan: "No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women." Thank heavens for those brave and patriotic men and women who continue to step forward, don the uniform of our nation, and do whatever it takes to preserve our freedom and our future.
I couldn't agree more!
A group of conservative college students joined us tonight. In they're quest for knowledge, they decided to visit the commie Pinkos who continue to hold their "vigil" waaaay down the block.
These peace-loving weiners actually became violent when the college kids engaged them in debate! The hippy with the flags on the end hit one of the students with a rolled up flag when the student pointed out that the "peace sign" flag voilated the law.
Comrade Bruce (funny-hat guy) screamed obscentities at the students when he perceived that they'd voilated Mrs. Bruce's personal space.
This passing pooch was curious and quite amused by the Pinkos.
Most people don't find them all that funny. Sergeant Steven Boggess wrote recently:
This same anti-war crowd is now asking for help with its numbers. They say "please help us if you believe we have a right to our simple vigil, if you can trust us not to ever do any harm to any of our veterans. Please join us sometime between seven and nine p.m. any Friday evening and show the world you don't believe in the lies told about us and that you believe in our right to have our vigil for our soldiers."
From what I know, Code Pink has already done harm to the soldiers in the hospital by its sheer presence across the street from soldiers who have given so much so that these anti-war and anti-Americans can protest the soldiers who are in the hospital.
photographing his comrades.
The knowledge that the soldiers have of this group's presence in its protest of the war is enough to do harm to the soldiers mentally and emotionally. The group however, can only see what they want to see, and also want others to validate their presence across the street by coming to join them in protest.
Read the rest of Code Pink: The vigil outside Walter Reed Army Hospital at Renew America.
The commies just don't get it. They say that they've spoken to the troops inside the hospital and that they have found the wounded to be in agreement with the Pinkos. I think the hippies are delusional! Of course, "Princess" couldn't come up with any names to verify his claims.
FReeper Albion Wilde made some great new banners.
One hero that's coming home soon is a Marine Corps Field Historian who writes the milblog The Daily Grind. Its hard to imagine anyone having second thoughts about coming home from Iraq, but the LtCol is having them in The Journey Home
I am looking forward to the reunion with my family. Yet, ironically, I am saddened to leave this god-forsaken place, to leave behind the Marines with whom I've lived and worked, my brothers, the men who are part of me and I them. I don't want to leave, not just yet, I haven't finished what I started, Please, I'm not ready to go....
It is time. A confusing time. Happy and sad. As if I'm losing something; It's hard, I don't understand why it has to feel this way...The end of my journey is close at hand. The long road home has begun...
Welcome home Sir!!! and Well Done!
Here's a few more photos of the FReepers and supporters.
We were fooled tonight by the appearance of the shorter bus, and thought that the big bus from Fran O'Brien's had not rolled tonight. As we were packing up, the big bus finally came. We shouted and waved as usual, but darn it! we didn't give the show of support we wanted. Next week we will wait!

I spent 5 hours last night just trying to back up photos because this dumb machine kept forgetting what it was doing half way through the file copies. Then it would lock up completely. Then I would throw it down the stairs, pick it up and start all over again. Maybe its the stairs?... nah!
Anyhoo, go look at (and buy) some of Capt Z's hilarious new ChuxStuff! I gotta have the BBQ apron! Excerpt: Barbeques are fun. Even moreso when you light the grill with gasoline and a flaregun. Read all about it here: http://tcoverride.blogspot.com/2005/06/barbeque.html

CivilWarrior is Coming Home!
Soldier, milblogger, teacher, diplomat, and all-around good guy Stephen is finally leaving fun filled Camp Bondsteel! In The last hurrah he gives one last look at the kind of work he's been doing for the past year in Kosovo.
At this point, I lost my patience with the whole thing, and told Trajon that he was wasting my time, and that I wasn't going to put up with it. I told Anthony Dada, and Danny we were leaving, got up and started to walk out. As soon as I did that, it suddenly got quiet again, Trajon left the room very quickly, without shaking my hand (which is considered a huge insult here) and very embarresed. All of the old men were smiling and nodding at me, telling me they agreed with me about what they should do...lots of handshakes all around...it was great.Thank you, CivilWarrior!!! You've done a great job and taught me a whole lot along the way. I'm really looking forward to that "I'm Home!" post!!!

Holy Crap Bat Man! I accepted Andi's invitation to be one of five to "live blog" the 2006 Milblog Conference in D.C. on April 22nd (and I was very honored to have been asked!) but now I'm not sure I'll be able to even function, let alone concentrate on what's being said and done. Look at the firepower that's going to be there!!!!!!
Pre-registration for military ends tomorrow (2/15) and then it's open for everyone. Head on over to the site and register if you're interested in meeting the big dogs and some wee pups.
Happy Valentines Day!
I love Dick Cheney. The first piece of news I heard upon arriving home from vacation was "VP Cheney Accidentally Shoots Man" and my first thought was way to go, Dick! He's just cool.
Here he is displaying his favorite two-fingered technique to kill traitors.
Uncle Jimbo and Matt are fighting over who is tougher: Cheney or Rummy.
Uncle J starts with Cheney v. Rumsfeld - Clash of the NeoCons and Matt add his own fight analysis with Rummy Could Kick Cheney's Ass.
They both have the two-fingered traitor "brain pull" thing goin'. I suppose this duel will be bare handed since Rummy is obviously a better shot. Wait a minute... did Cheney mean to hit his friend? Maybe it wasn't a miss!!!
Yes! I say an old fashioned duel with Zell Miller as one of the seconds!

After spending hours Friday/Saturday creating this week's Walter Reed post, all was lost.
Anyhoo, if you want to at least look at pictures, see the new site.

Its a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
I've been really distracted lately and can't put more than 2 thoughts together; thus, light posting.
Doll over at FreedomWatch is calling for a Boycott of the WaPo - don't just use it for pet doodoo, stop buying that rag altogether! She's done a lot of research and lists dozens of articles with 'tudes to prove her point. Check it out.
Tom The Redhunter writes about the nasty cartoon in his own piece.
basil's Blog Interviews are still open for questions. You've got until 2/19 to submit questions for your's truly, and only until the 12th for Peakah's
Have you visited SandGram yet? NO??? Why the hell not!?! Major "Taco" Bell, USMC should be required reading for everyone. He's funny, smart, handsome, witty, and (what was it his Mom said?...) Oh yeah - he eats his spinach! OK, I made that part up... Go read Sand in my Crack for starters.
This time next week - I'll be drunk. More about that later.
One more - Capt. "BBQ King" Z says it best in Hurt's, don't it?.
What next, a cartoon of a C-130 flying into the Wapo headquarters--"What secret mission from the Joint Chiefs?" C'mon, Tolles, you know you can't wait to compare us Soldiers to Terrorists. Now go wrap yourself up in the First Ammendment and suck your thumb to sleep--I hope you get into an accident on your way to work, and wake up a quadruple amputee, you son of a whore. If I ever meet you, you're due for a nine-fingered ass-whooping, and I will take great joy in breaking every last bone in your hands before shoving them up your ass.Aaahhhh, nothing beats a Chuck rant! Check out his "editing" of said comic, too.

Brief SOTU impressions
HOORAY! I liked at the beginning when Bush called Murtha and his gang a bunch of dishonorable cowards.
BOO! Democrats giving themselves a standing ovation for screwing us on Social Security reform. What a bunch of hosers!
HOORAY! 2 new SCOTUS Justices on hand. I wish Scalia had been there...
BOO! Tim Kaine (new VA Gov) is an idiot! What's the matter with the Old Dominion?
HOORAY! Bush says we're going to win and anyone who doesn't Support the Troops is a loser! (at least that's the way I heard it)
What did you think?
